Russian authorities will not accept discussion about Lenin, expert believes

The myths about Lenin are lacking historic truth, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of N. I. Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod Aleksandr Medvedev said in an interview to the Rossa Primavera News Agency on April 5.

“The myth about Lenin’s German money is not supported by any historical facts, and honest historians have repeatedly disproven it. Lenin called to use violence and terror against the enemies of the Soviet government, but this was a forced measure in the civil war, in which the White Guardsmen and the invaders used even greater and deadlier terror,” the historian explained answering correspondent’s question about myths about Lenin.

Professor Medvedev also emphasized the complication of a wide discussion of Lenin in Russia today. “We could initiate a discussion about Lenin’s personality and his importance for our country and the world in media and on TV channels, but the Russian authorities and the bourgeois media will never accept it.”

Background

Russia celebrates the 150th anniversary since the birth of Vladimir Lenin, one of the key figures in its history. Some consider him savior of Russia, who has managed to get the country out of the chaos, while others talk about “a bomb to Russian statehood”.

One still hears anti-Soviet curses of the Cold War, while primitive pseudo-Soviet slogans are being reproduced. At the same time, there is a growing demand in society for a real rethinking of the Soviet heritage.
