Kurginyan: Russian Constitutional judge wanted to politically support Western countries

19.02.2020, Moscow.

Russian Constitutional Court judge Konstantin Aranovsky, with his statement that the USSR was illegitimate, entered the discussion between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Western elites, supporting the latter, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel on February 17.

The program discussed the special opinion that Constitutional Court judge Konstantin Aranovsky expressed when he said that Russia must not consider itself to be the successor of “the repressive and terrorist actions” committed by the Soviet authorities, and that the USSR was an illegally created state.

On the program, an opinion was expressed that such a refusal of recognition would result in Russia losing its place in the UN Security Council, and it would strengthen the position of European countries that today blame Russia and the USSR for starting World War Two.

In response, Sergey Kurginyan said that a person of Aranovsky’s education cannot be unaware of these obvious consequences for Russia, but he nevertheless expresses this special opinion, thus interfering in the political debate between Russia and the Western countries.

“This happened exactly when a discussion took place between the President of Russia and Western structures, which have started to blame us. We cannot help but include this in the discussion. We just can’t. And he [Aranovsky ― Rossa Primavera News Agency] as a citizen, and especially as a competent legal scholar, cannot be unaware what kind of a position he supports. And he supports it deliberately,” Kurginyan said.

The political scientist emphasized that Aranovsky’s position “makes no sense,” because the USSR was a UN founding member state along with the USA and the other UN Security Council members.

“This means that Roosevelt signed all the documents on behalf of the American people as a non-existent state? Then the entire system that exists today bases itself on a evil criminal state? Then the UN must be dissolved immediately. Immediately, this very moment,” the political scientist concluded.

On February 17, Constitutional Court judge Konstantin Aranovsky said that the USSR was an illegitimately created state. He made this statement in his special opinion on a case of three plaintiffs who were born in special settlements where their parents were living in exile. The plaintiffs wanted to receive housing in Moscow because their parents lived there before exile. The Court sided with the plaintiffs. Aranovsky supported the Court’s decision, but he found it necessary to add his special opinion on this case.
