The Lvov Regional Council expressed a protest note on statements by the office of the President of Ukraine on holding local elections in 2020 in the LPR and DPR, the press service of the Lvov regional administration reports on February 11.
The statements read:
“We, the Lvov Regional Council deputies express deep concern over the statement of the assistant to President of Ukraine, Andrey Yermak, regarding the new ‘package of agreements’ for the next round of negotiations in the Normandy format, which provide for holding local elections in the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Lugansk regions at the end of October 2020”.
According to the Lvov officials, as long as there are representatives of “the armed formations of the Russian Federation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” any initiatives to hold local elections are illegal and harmful to Ukrainian national security.
The Lvov regional administration believes that even if the territories of the LPR and DPR come under Kiev’s control by the time of the autumn local elections, time is required for “a complex set of measures to verify Ukrainian citizenship”.
Editorial comment
The clerical wording “verification of Ukrainian citizenship” further implies carrying out repressive measures against those who offered resistance, including armed resistance, against the existing Ukrainian authorities` criminal actions.
The people in power in Ukraine came to their posts as a result of a coup in the country in 2014. During the events of that year, they violated more than one provision of the Ukrainian Constitution.

Therefore, the statements of the Lvov administration imply specific criminal actions that logically continue the criminal actions on the Maidan in 2014.
