Fire kills 14 Russian submariners in deep-sea vehicle

A deep-sea vehicle was caught fire while carrying out bathymetric measurements, killing 14 submariners, the Russian Ministry of Defense press service reported on July 2nd.

The fire took place in Russian territorial waters. The crew died due to poisoning from combustion products.

The deep-sea vehicle is a Losharik-class nuclear deep-water submarine. Deep-water submarines are made to study the ocean floor and bottom space. The deep-sea vehicle was being used in on behalf of the Russian Navy.

The causes of the accident are being investigated.
