The US has already made the decision to invade Venezuela, and it is developing a detailed military plan for regime change, said the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova during a briefing, a Rossa Primavera News Agency correspondent reports.
“Judging by the activities of US military delegations, which recently have literally flooded the region, they are working on comprehensive preparations for regime change by force, including its logistic aspects,” said Zakharova during the briefing.
The spokesperson draw attention to media reports on an increasing number of visits by US military and security forces personnel to the countries neighbouring Venezuela. For instance, senior US military officers visited Cúcuta, Colombia, which is located on the border with Venezuela.
The strategically important Venezuelan airport of Santo Domingo, which can accommodate all types of aircraft is located near Cúcuta.
“Putting all these facts together, one must conclude that Washington has decided to use force. Everything else is no more than a smokescreen,” said Zakharova.
The US not once issued threatening statements towards Venezuela; it also imposed sanctions against the country, and it recognized Juan Guido as president without worrying that he never even participated in presidential elections.
US President Donald Trump openly said that a military intervention in Venezuela is on the table.
