Deputy Chairman of Russian Security Council: NATO missiles have previously been used to strike Russia’s territory

19.11.2024, Moscow.

Attempts to strike Russian territory with long-range missiles provided by NATO countries have already occurred, stated Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, on November 19 on his Telegram channel.

In his post, Medvedev wrote, “It does not matter much who and when made the decision to use NATO countries’ long-range tactical ballistic and cruise missiles to strike ‘deep into’ Russian territory. Especially since there have already been attempts to use them against our country.”

According to Medvedev, if Russia finalizes its nuclear doctrine, the use of NATO missiles in such a situation could be considered an attack on Russia, potentially triggering the start of World War III.

Earlier, Western media reported that US President Joe Biden approved the use of ATACMS missiles by the Ukrainian armed units for strikes against Russia. This approval came after it became known that Moscow had involved North Korean military forces in combat operations in Kursk Region.

In September 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed updating the nuclear doctrine. On November 19, the leader of the state approved its revised version.

The new document expanded the category of countries and military alliances against which nuclear deterrence could be applied.
