The biggest threat to security in space and the biggest supporter of the space arms race is the United States, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang told reporters on November 15.
The Chinese official noted that the United States blames others for what it does wrong itself.
“The United States’ deployment of anti-satellite weapons under the pretext of the so-called ‘Chinese space threat’ is a complete perversion of facts to shift suspicion to the other side… The facts have repeatedly proved that the United States is the biggest threat to security in space and the biggest supporter of the space arms race,” the Chinese defense ministry spokesman said.
Zhang Xiaogang noted that the US treats space as a war zone and continues to expand its military power in the orbital space, which poses a threat to common security and the right of all countries to develop in outer space.
He stressed that Beijing has always advocated the peaceful use of outer space, against the militarization of space and space arms race, the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, Bloomberg agency, citing the US space forces, reported that the US will put into operation military means of suppressing satellites of China and Russia in 2025.
According to media reports, the Pentagon plans to test the combat readiness of 32 weapons of the Meadowlands system for jamming satellites in the first quarter of 2025. The system’s operability was reported back in 2020, and it was to be put into operation in October 2022.
The developer of the system is L3Harris. The system is a lightweight version of the Counter Communications System jamming generator, which has already been in service since 2020.
Meadowlands may receive updated software that will allow jamming of more frequencies.
Earlier, General Bradley Chance Saltzman, head of the US Space Operations Command, said that one of the reasons for the creation of a US space force is the space achievements of Russia and China.
