Russian Foreign Ministry reveals essence of Kiev’s statement on possible ceasefire

21.10.2024, Moscow.

Statements by Ukrainian authorities about a possible cessation of hostilities are an attempt to influence the outcome of the presidential campaign in the United States, said Aleksey Polishchuk, head of the Second Commonwealth of Independent States Countries Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on October 21, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“Kiev’s statements are clearly aimed at influencing the US presidential campaign in a way that benefits them,” the Russian Foreign Ministry official said.

The US presidential elections will take place on November 5, 2024. The final contenders are Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party and Donald Trump from the Republican Party. On September 24, 2024, Donald Trump declared that if he wins the election, he will cease providing military assistance to Kiev. He argued that Washington should withdraw from the Ukrainian conflict, which he claims was instigated by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

“I think that we’re stuck in that war unless I’m president. I’ll get it done. I’ll get it negotiated, I’ll get out,” Trump stated at the time.
