Russian Aerospace Forces strike militant bases in Syria

12.10.2024, Damascus.

The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) carried out airstrikes on two militant deployment points in Syria, reported Captain First Rank Oleg Ignasyuk, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, during a briefing on October 11.

“The VKS of Russia struck two identified militant deployment points, which had exited the Al-Tanf zone and were hiding in hard-to-reach areas of Homs province,” said Ignasyuk.

Additionally, it was noted that in the Al-Tanf area over the past day, there were six violations of Syrian airspace regulations by two F-15 fighters belonging to US-led coalition forces.

In September 2014, a coalition of several Western countries led by the United States announced their entry into the Syrian civil war with the stated goal of fighting against the Islamic State (banned organization in Russia). Russia did not support the coalition’s actions because they were not coordinated with the current Syrian government led by Bashar al-Assad.
