Cuba officially requests partner status with BRICS

08.10.2024, Havanna.

Cuba officially applied to join BRICS as a partner country, announced Carlos Pereira, Director General of the Department of Bilateral Relations at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on October 7 via the social network X.

In his statement, Pereira specified that the request was made in the form of a message addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is currently the chairman of the BRICS group.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry representative described BRICS as a key player in global geopolitics and a beacon of hope for the countries of the Global South. It is noteworthy that Russia holds the chairmanship of the group in 2024.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Cuba Viktor Koronelli reported on the official application of the republic for partner status in BRICS and the invitation extended to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel to participate in an expanded meeting in the “BRICS Plus” format at the summit in Kazan.
