Any statements about “red lines” in the conflict with Ukraine are meaningless, because they will not entail any serious measures from Russia in the current situation, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on August 21 on the program Objectively on Belarusian channel ONT.
“What kind of red lines are we talking about? What is that? It means we will do this and that, and we will destroy everyone. But do we have anything to destroy with? There is nothing worse than a strong gesture made by a weak person,” the political scientist said.
Sergey Kurginyan added that Russia has not enough drive to say, “We will now mobilize all our strategic nuclear forces to strike on Washington, London, and Paris.” However, he explained that the ongoing speculations about tactical nuclear weapons are senseless and harmful.
“Tactical nuclear weapons would severely compromise us because they are nuclear, they would bring pollution, while heavy gliding vacuum bombs make almost the same without pollution and without endless international scandals,” Kurginyan explained.
He explained that while having insufficient forces and power of its defense industry, Russia has to maneuver in order to maintain supplies of components from a number of countries that are necessary for the combat.
“Does anybody want that to stop? Will all the plants of our autarchy appear by magic? A blogger will close his eyes and after he opens them he will see a plant with all the engineers and everything else?” the political scientist asked.
He explained that the strange thing is not that Russia maneuvers, but “what is strange is that in this maneuvering this loosened, imperfect system keeps together, operates, and does something.”
Meanwhile, Russia’s elite remains inhomogeneous, the political scientist stressed. He expressed confidence that radical measures rather than rhetoric and prosecutor’s inspections are required to make it homogeneous and patriotic.
“We need a sort of 1937. When you see that 11 trillion is gone mass lawsuits and executions must follow. But who will be the executioners? This is the problem! It seems to me that the problem is that we do not like our reality, which may be ugly but it is hours, it exists, and it maintains somehow,” Kurginyan concluded.
