Deputy Chairman of Russian Security Council: Durov will never be perceived in the West as equal

25.08.2024, Moscow.

Pavel Durov wants to be a cosmopolite, but he will remain a Russian for the West. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev wrote this on his Telegram channel on August 25.

Medvedev recalled his conversation with Durov, in which the latter stated his principled unwillingness to cooperate with any law enforcement agencies. Medvedev then warned him that with such a stance, Durov could have problems with the authorities of any country.

“He thought that the biggest problems he had were in Russia, and left, then also getting citizenship/residence permits in other states. He wanted to be a brilliant ‘cosmopolite’ who lives perfectly well without a homeland. Ubi bene ibi patria! [Where there is bread, there is my homeland – Rossa Primavera News Agency],” Medvedev wrote.

He noted that for the West, Durov will still remain a Russian and will never rank up there with Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, who cooperates with the FBI.

“Durov should finally realize that the Fatherland, like the times, is not chosen…” Medvedev stated.

According to French media, Durov, who has French citizenship, was detained at Le Bourget airport when leaving a private jet.

The media reported that Durov was wanted in France on suspicion of committing several offenses. Including Telegram’s refusal to cooperate with the country’s authorities.
