France seeks support for collective dispatch of troops to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has made an attempt to create a coalition to send military trainers to Ukraine, ignoring Germany. This was reported by German Welt am Sonntag, citing diplomatic sources on June 9.

Thierry Burkhardt, chief of staff of the French Armed Forces, sent a letter on participation in sending military instructors to Ukraine to Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark and other partner countries, including the USA and the UK, the newspaper reported. At the same time, France ignored Germany due to the latter’s unwillingness to participate in the escalation of the conflict.

Macron proposed to change the mandate in the existing EU mission EUMAM, which would allow sending military trainers to Ukraine. The publication claims that the change of the mandate is possible to make in the summer, when the parameters of the mission could possibly be revised to extend the work of the mission in November.

The source of the publication specifies that the French initiative has caused resistance from most countries, and Germany, Italy and Spain fear a significant increase in the risk of escalation. Thus Hungary said that there is no chance of Ukraine’s victory over Russia.

It is worth noting that in May, the AFU commander-in-chief Alexander Syrsky officially allowed French instructors to visit training centers in Ukraine. Then a member of the Verkhovnaya Rada said that France had accepted the invitation and had already sent a group of instructors.
