Brussels confirms its inability to protect the EU borders

25.01.2024, Hungary.

Brussels has no intention or ability to protect the EU’s borders from illegal migrants, the Hungarian Parliament’s State Secretary for EU Affairs Barna Pál Zsigmond said on Facebook (organization banned in Russia) on January 24.

The Hungarian politician criticized the statement of the head of the European border agency Frontex that migrants cannot be stopped: “Nothing can stop people from crossing the border, neither a wall, nor a fence, nor a sea, nor a river.

According to Zsigmond, Brussels confessed its failure to protect the borders of the European Union. He complained that the head of Frontex himself considers his own agency unfit to fulfill the goals of the organization. The Hungarian politician explained: as soon as Brussels gives up its migration policy, foreigners can be stopped by a wall, a fence, a sea or a river.

Hungary has a consistent immigration policy that works, Hungary has not allowed itself to be turned into a country of immigrants. We have built a fence, we continue to protect our borders <…> We reject EU policies that encourage migration,” the Secretary of State for EU Affairs said.

The flow of migrants into Europe for 2023 increased by 17% compared to 2022. There has also been an increase in attacks on border guards, with illegal migrants starting shootings.
