After the collapse of several myths about the Ukrainian conflict, which were circulated on both sides, came the harsh reality of a positional war, or a war of attrition, said political scientist, philosopher, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on January 10 on the ObyektivNO program on the ONT Belarusian channel.
The idea of breaking Russia with a boastfully advertised “counter-offensive” operation turned out to be a severe blow for President Vladimir Zelensky and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which, in addition, had to be admitted to the whole world, noted the political scientist.
“They have locked themselves into it and got hit very hard in the face; crawled away; did nothing; suffered monstrous losses not only in manpower, but also in equipment; and even forced to admit it,” noted Kurginyan.
According to him, this myth about a “counter-offensive” was quickly followed by the West’s reluctance to help Ukraine with all its might due to its current condition.
“It turned out that the West is not too grand and that its abilities to supply as much military equipment as necessary are limited by the fact that it is lazy, immobile, immersed in its own contradictions, its own needs,” stated Kurginyan.
Furthermore, he stated that this reluctance on the side of the West gave rise to the myth that it will inevitably and soon leave Ukraine alone to the mercy of its fate. While previously, a similar myth that Russia would not withstand the sanctions and would break under their pressure existed on the other side. But all these PR campaigns will ultimately be refuted by the harsh reality of the war, the political scientist emphasized.
“In the end, when all these myths poured in and poured out and poured in, and there are so many of them, because they are all PR-created, the very harsh truth of a positional war, a war of attrition, was revealed, in which, of course, Russia has – if it accepts its terms – more opportunities, a larger population,” summed up Kurginyan.
He particularly noted that Russia did not break under the yoke of sanctions and was able to find reserves in its current state, which is complicated and not suitable for war, and add additional resources that nevertheless allow it to withstand the pressure of the conflict.
“Considering that this economy was built for the task of integrating into the global civilization (that is, the West), as a consumer society – it has managed to propel economic growth as much as it was able. This too cannot be ignored,” the political scientist emphasized.
