Two new armies, aviation corps, 50 formations and units are formed in Russia in 2023, according to the summary for the year 2023 published by the Russian Defense Ministry.
The summary reads, “In 2023, the Armed Forces of Russia formed two general armored armies, mixed aviation corps, as well as 50 formations and military units – including four divisions, 18 brigades and 28 regiments.”
On December 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree setting the authorized strength of the Armed Forces at 2,209,130 units, including 1,320,000 servicemen. He also instructed the government to provide this increase with appropriate funds.
Earlier, in August 2022, the authorized strength of the Russian Armed Forces was set at 2,039,758 people, including 1,150,628 servicemen.
