A growing healthy population is unnecessary in a hedonistic and consumerist system, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on November 23 at the 18th Russian Congress “Health as the Basis of Human Potential: Problems and Solutions.”
The expert urged the participants of the conference to look at the current situation in healthcare and demography from the point of view of conflict management studies. Kurginyan reminded about a report of the Club of Rome which directly discussed the concept of the Golden Billion where only a narrow circle of people would have access to unlimited consumption.
“No one wants to increase the population. No one knows what to do if India and China reach prosperity in a fair capitalist way based on market and globalism, and every Indian and Chinese family wants to have the same standards of living as in the US. <…> The entire mega-trend destroys health in order to cut the population. Therefore, we exist in a struggle of two trends. Someone wants to increase the population, but someone wants to cut it. Someone wants health, but someone wants diseases,” Kurginyan said.
Also, the political scientist indicated that healthcare today, both in the West and in Russia, has long transformed into a supplement to the pharmaceutical industry. According to Kurginyan, the pharmaceutical industry has become the only field of continuous growth.
“Various pharmacists of the 19th century and these giants today are absolutely different things. But what does the pharmaceutical industry need? It needs a sick man!” the political scientist concluded.
