Orban: Hungary will consider attack on pipeline from Russia a reason for war

30.08.2023, Budapest.

Hungary and Serbia have said they would consider any encroachment on Russia’s gas pipeline to be a reason for war after the Nord Stream pipelines were blown up, and the countries believe they have been heard, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with well-known US television host Tucker Carlson released on August 29.

The politician recalled that immediately after the gas pipeline explosions, Hungary called them a terrorist attack. Orban characterized the absence of such a harsh reaction from Germany as a manifestation of the lack of sovereignty.

He noted that Hungary immediately reminded that there is the South Stream, which provides gas to Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary. Together with the Serbian prime minister, it was stated that if it is also attacked, Hungary and Serbia will consider it a reason for war, a terrorist attack, and will react immediately.

The politician noted that such things may have worked with the Germans, but it cannot be done with their region. He did not say to whom exactly the warning was sent, saying only that it was not Russia.

When asked by a journalist whether the addressee understood the warning, Orbán replied affirmatively.

Carlson, for his part, noted that he believes Nord Streams was undermined by US President Joe Biden’s administration, either directly or indirectly.
