Russian Defense Ministry: US instructors trained Ukrainian units

09.03.2022, Moscow.

The Ukrainian fighters who were to participate in the invasion of Donbass were trained by instructors from the United States and the United Kingdom, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, a representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, said at a briefing on March 9.

Konashenkov specified that it was a battalion-tactical group of the 4th operational brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. Earlier, the Russian military received documents according to which this brigade was planned to be used as a strike force to attack Donbass.

“I will especially note that this unit of Ukraine’s airborne assault troops has been trained since 2016 by US and British instructors under “NATO standard” training programs in Lvov,” Konashenkov stressed.

Thus, the Defense Ministry said, the special operation conducted by Russia prevented and thwarted a large-scale offensive by Ukrainian strike groups of troops against the LPR and DPR.
