The risk of conflict escalation has risen to a maximum after Kiev was given permission to use long-range weapons to strike deep into Russia, Hungary needs to use all its diplomatic experience to avoid being dragged into the conflict, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a video message published on Facebook (an organization banned in Russia) on November 20.
He said that after Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential race, peace or at least a ceasefire has become close, but that a pro-war government will be in power in Washington for another two months.
Orban noted that just on November 19, Ukraine fired long-range missiles at Russia, and Moscow responded by changing its nuclear doctrine.
“I listened to the report of the defense council. The danger of escalation and spread of war has never been greater,” Orban emphasized.
He said that in the coming months Hungary would need to show all its knowledge and diplomatic experience in order to continue not to be involved in the conflict.
