The project of the “New Man” disappeared in 1991 with the collapse of the communist project, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and analyst Sergey Kurginyan said in his congratulatory address on the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution on November 7.
According to the political scientist, 1991 was the pivotal year after which no one wanted to talk about the New Man anymore. As an example, the philosopher referred to the high-impact books of that period, The Clash of Civilizations by Samuel Huntington and The End of History and the Last Man by Francis Fukuyama, in which the authors ignored the topic of Man.
“And then post-modernists said that the project of Man was over, the project of Humanism was over. And we really see that it is taking place,” the leader of Essence of Time stressed.
According to Sergey Kurginyan, the entire modern civilization, either Eastern or Western, mostly socialist as in China (with certain reservations) or mostly capitalist, does not dare to speak about Man, because this subject is its Achilles’ heel.
“Speaking about it is bad for your nervous system, and no one wants to harm his nervous system,” the philosopher explained.
