Kim Jong Un announces preparation for war due to escalation of conflict in Ukraine

18.11.2024, Pyongyang.

Kim Jong Un stated the necessity of strengthening North Korea’s nuclear capabilities due to actions by the US and its allies, including permitting Ukraine to strike Russia with long-range weapons, Bloomberg wrote on November 18.

North Korea accused the US, Japan, and South Korea of destabilizing the situation on the Korean Peninsula. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that the army’s top priority is to actively prepare for a potential war. As part of this preparation, Pyongyang intends to enhance its nuclear arsenal.

According to the North Korean leader, the responsibility for the worsening regional stability lies with the Western allies, who he claims continue to engage in provocative actions. Kim Jong Un also linked the conflict in Ukraine to the increased pressure on North Korea, accusing the US of prolonging the hostilities by providing military aid to Kyiv.

The situation was exacerbated by the recent decision by Washington to allow Ukraine to strike Russian territory using long-range ATACMS missiles, as reported by the NYT. The decision to use them is likely connected to reports of North Korean military personnel being involved in combat in Kursk Region, further intensifying the mutual accusations between the parties involved.
