Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand have joined BRICS as partners, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said, with the full text of the speech published on the ministry’s website on November 15.

As Pankin noted at the joint meeting of APEC foreign and trade ministers, the BRICS summit in Kazan clearly demonstrated the world community’s desire to create a just world order, reform global institutions and establish equal economic ties.

During the meeting, a significant package of agreements was reached in the areas of trade, investment, artificial intelligence, energy, climate and logistics. Our APEC counterparts Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand became partners of the association.

During the meeting of APEC foreign and trade ministers, Pankin emphasized that the BRICS summit in Kazan was a bright evidence of the world community’s aspiration to create a just world order, reform global institutions and establish equitable economic relations.

The meeting achieved significant progress in the areas of trade, investment, artificial intelligence, energy, climate and logistics. Our APEC colleagues Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand became partners of the association.

He also noted that the share of Asia-Pacific (APAC) economies in Russia’s foreign trade has already reached 70%. Moreover, almost 90% of payments are made in national currencies.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that energy security is one of the key factors of modern development.

As Pankin noted, Russia seeks to guarantee uninterrupted supplies of energy resources to the APEC region. We firmly believe that the transition to low-carbon energy sources should be carried out on a fair basis, taking into account each country’s internal priorities and technological capabilities. Care for nature and climate should not become an instrument of unfair competition.
