The West is proposing the worse version of the Minsk agreements to resolve the conflict in Ukraine along the combat lines, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on November 13 in an interview with the Russia One TV channel.
“Now, some [Western representatives] have started to take a more sober view of the specific Ukrainian situation and say, ‘Well, what’s lost is lost, let’s somehow freeze the situation’,” Lavrov noted.
According to the minister, there are proposals for a “ten-year ceasefire,” presented as a radically new approach to the issue. However, in reality, “these are the same Minsk agreements in new packaging.”
Lavrov pointed out that this new freeze package is worse because “the Minsk agreements were final,” while in this case, the resumption of hostilities after a ten-year truce is not excluded.
Previously, Lavrov noted that the West has become more realistic about the Ukrainian situation. Statements are being made that Ukraine cannot regain what it has lost, and therefore, the situation should be frozen. He emphasized that everyone who wants to stop the war only talks about freezing the situation.
