Ukraine fully covered by Musk’s Starlink satellite network

05.11.2024, Washington.

The satellite network Starlink, owned by US entrepreneur Elon Musk, now fully covers the territory of Ukraine, the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote on November 5.

“The decision on where, for whom, and when to activate the satellites lies solely with Musk. This power is most evident in the conflict in Ukraine,” the newspaper noted.

The newspaper explained that since the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Musk’s company SpaceX provided thousands of Starlink terminals to Ukraine, which have been actively used for military communications by the Ukrainian armed units.

In mid-October, The Washington Post said that Starlink satellites are enabling the Russian army to improve the coordination of offensive actions and operate unmanned aviation through the use of Starlink terminals acquired on the black market. The newspaper cited statements from Ukrainian militants who claimed that the successful execution of many Russian operations in Ukraine was due to the effective use of Starlink communications.

The New York Times indicated that Musk has been forced to divert significant resources from SpaceX to counter Russian efforts to suppress the satellite network.
