The Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) signed an agreement with China’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) to enhance cooperation, ANTARA reported on November 5.

“China is a strategic partner for Indonesia. We have many funding programs that benefit BRIN, universities, and research institutes in Indonesia,” Hariono stated.

During the 7th session of the China-Indonesia Joint Committee on Scientific and Technological and Innovative Cooperation in Beijing, China’s Ministry of Science and Technology expressed its willingness to support joint research projects in areas such as renewable energy, biofuels, electric vehicles, and biotechnology.

MOST proposed six joint projects to be completed within two years with financial support from the Chinese government and contributions from Indonesia according to its budget.

Hariono mentioned that the Ministry of Science and Technology also plans to launch a short-term research program for Indonesian scientists, allowing them to conduct research in China, particularly in the fields of energy and construction.

In the same statement, Deputy Director General of the China Science and Technology Exchange Center, Yang Xuemei invited young Indonesian scientists to spend a year in China for in-depth scientific research.

Additionally, BRIN and MOST support the establishment of a joint research center involving Tsinghua University and the Health Policy Department of Indonesia’s Ministry of Health.

The joint research center is expected to be a platform that brings together relevant institutions from both countries in the fields of health and public policy.

China also highlighted the role of the China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center (CATTC) in strengthening technological cooperation with Indonesia.

The meeting, held on November 1, 2024, concluded with the signing of an agreement to implement the 1st joint research program between MOST and BRIN, in addition to the memorandum of understanding signed last year.
