Four Russian warships have docked in Surabaya, East Java, to participate in the joint naval exercises Oruda 2024, ANTARA wrote on November 4.
The head of the Information Service of the TNI Fleet II Navy Command, Colonel Widyo Sasongko stated that the Russian Navy has sent three corvettes: “Gromkiy,” “Aldar Tsydenzhapov,” and “Rezkiy”; one medium tanker RMS “Pechenga”; one Ka-27 helicopter; and one rescue tug “Alatau.”
“Russian Navy ships docked at the North Pier of Jamrud in Perak Harbor in Surabaya. They will join our joint exercises,” Sasongko noted.
The Russian warships were welcomed by the Commander of the Main Base of the Surabaya Navy, Commodore Arya Delano, accompanied by the Deputy Commander of the United Training Group Oruda, Lieutenant Colonel Rivo Heviland.
In his speech, Delano said that the joint exercises symbolize the strong relationship between the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy.
Meanwhile, Captain 1st Rank Aleksey Antsiferov, representing the Russian Navy delegation, said that the joint exercises would be a good opportunity to test the readiness of the personnel from both sides. The joint exercises also facilitate the exchange of experiences and skills and strengthen the friendship between the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy.
The Oruda 2024 joint naval exercises, initiated in the waters off Surabaya, continue the cooperation program between the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy, which began in 2018. These exercises mark the first joint exercises between the two sides.
In addition to mobilizing two warships, the Indonesian Navy also deployed the US565 MBE “Panther” anti-submarine helicopter.
This year’s joint exercises will include activities both in port and at sea. From the Indonesian side, two warships, KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-368 and KRI Frans Kaisiepo-368, will participate. The exercises will take place from November 4 to November 8.
