Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya: Migration from Ukrainian to Russia infuriates Zelensky

01.11.2024, New York.

The mass migration of Ukrainian citizens to Russia infuriates Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, said Vasily Nebenzya, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN at the UN Security Council meeting on October 31.

Many Ukrainian citizens who emigrated to the West face everyday problems, humiliation, and discrimination based on language, the diplomat noted. He emphasized that these problems caused their mass migration to Russia, including the new regions of the country.

According to Nebenzya, Russia received 5.3 million Ukrainian refugees in the year the special military operation in Ukraine (SMO) started.

In September 2024, Nebenzya noted that Russia has always treated Ukrainians with respect. He called the Ukrainian citizens a fraternal people with whom the Russian citizens have unbreakable historical ties.

According to experts, migration from Ukraine to new Russia’s new regions is explained by the lack of such measures as forced mobilization and Ukrainization.

“Russia offers $500 (48.5 thousand rubles) compensation per square meter of destroyed housing. You can speak both Russian and Ukrainian languages there,” wrote Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko.

Earlier, the UK publication The Guardian published an interview with five Ukrainian citizens who hid in their homes to avoid conscription. According to Ukrainians, it is now possible to leave Ukraine and circumvent the restrictions for about €8 thousand, and without any guarantee of successfully crossing the border.

The “easiest” way to avoid mobilization is to bribe the territorial recruitment centers (military registration and enlistment offices) employees, the publication’s interviewers noted.
