Ukrainian militants shot at civilians and domestic animals while retreating from the town of Ukrainsk, according to two residents interviewed by RIA Novosti on October 28.
The residents, who managed to evacuate recently, described that the soldiers showed no regard for the remaining townspeople.
“In one neighborhood, they shot seven men dead and killed around ten dogs. Then they warned the residents that the same would happen to them if they didn’t leave for Ukraine,” stated a local woman named Natalia.
Another resident, Ella, added that the soldiers allegedly threatened to leave no survivors among the townspeople if they were to retreat.
“In the area with new housing, they killed several people who were hiding in a basement. Soldiers threw several grenades in there, set the door on fire, and locked it to prevent anyone from escaping,” she said.
Ukrainsk is located in the Krasnoarmeysk district of Donetsk Region. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainsk was liberated by the Group of Forces Tsentr on September 26. Assault company commander Eduard reported that Ukrainian militants had set up fortifications in the residential areas of the town.
