A diplomatic meeting focused on cooperation between Russia and Indonesia in defense, agriculture, and energy sectors was held by Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Chairman of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council, and Ilyas Umakhanov, the Russian government envoy and senator, on October 19, as reported by Indonesian news outlet Detik.

“We have a firm diplomatic commitment to build cooperation with friendly countries. We want the strategic cooperation with Russia in the defense, energy, and agricultural sectors to continue to improve and strengthen,” stated the Indonesian representative at the beginning of the meeting, as quoted by Detik.

In the defense sector, Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin expressed hope for receiving military technologies from Russia, particularly in submarine construction. He explained that Indonesia, being the largest archipelagic country, needs to maintain maritime defense capabilities and protect its marine resources.

In the agricultural sector, the Indonesian politician highlighted Indonesia’s interest in importing wheat from Russia, acknowledging Russia as the world’s leading wheat producer.

“Russia is the world’s number one wheat-producing country, while Indonesia is one of the largest wheat-importing countries in the world,” emphasized Sultan B.

In his welcoming remarks, the Russian senator congratulated his Indonesian colleague on being elected Chairman of the Regional Representative Council and wished prosperity for the Indonesian people ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
