Member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, by combining efforts, can create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in South Asia, ensuring much-needed development in the region, stated Indian journalist of Syrian origin and West Asia expert at Chanakya Forum magazine, Waiel Awwad, on October 16, as reported by ANI.

Awwad evaluated the expansion of BRICS and SCO organizations in terms of their impact on the situation in South Asian countries.

“All the investors can come here, especially to South Asia, where it needs the most of development, of the infrastructure to improve, and also for the welfare of the people, if they [member countries of the organizations – Rossa Primavera News Agency] can join hands, all the stakeholders and make sure that there is no terrorism…,” the expert said. He emphasized the great importance of creating an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Without it, he explained, people everywhere flee from troubles, and others would not come there for business.

Awwad highly appreciated the speech of Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad on October 16. Jaishankar called terrorism, extremism, and separatism three evils that impede trade, travel, and relations between people from different countries.

In this context, the expert highlighted India’s special role in creating a multipolar world. According to him, India represents the voice of the Global South in SCO and BRICS. The expansion of these organizations indicates that these countries are increasingly eager to make their presence known.

The BRICS summit will be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. New member states, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, will participate for the first time.
