Erdogan urges Russia and Iran to act against Israeli threat in Syria

12.10.2024, Ankara.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Russia and Iran to take more active measures against the threat posed by Israel to Syria, RIA Novosti wrote on October 12.

According to the agency, Erdogan emphasized that Israel represents a serious threat to Syria’s territorial integrity and expressed hope for joint actions with Russia, Iran, and Syria to protect the region. He also noted that a similar situation is developing in Iraq.

“We must act in solidarity, putting aside minor calculations, to save the region,” the Turkish leader said . Erdogan pointed to the dangers arising from both Israel’s military actions and terrorist organizations, which, he said, undermine regional stability.

The situation in Syria remains complex amid the ongoing conflict that began in 2011. During the civil war, Russia and Iran played significant roles in supporting government forces and fighting against terrorist groups such as ISIS (organization banned in Russia) and other radical organizations. Israel, in turn, periodically conducts military operations on Syrian territory, justifying them as necessary to prevent threats from Iranian forces operating in Syria.
