Russian Foreign Ministry explains aim of Iskander missile strike on port near Odessa

06.10.2024, Moscow.

The ports in the Odessa region are primary hubs through which the Ukrainian armed units receive weapons, fuel, and equipment, stated Rodion Miroshnik, Special Envoy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for crimes of the Kiev regime, on October 6 via Telegram.

“Ukrainian ports in the Odessa region are the main gateways through which the Ukrainian armed units are supplied with weapons, fuel, and equipment,” the diplomat emphasized. “We want these hubs for Western military-technical assistance to stop functioning altogether,” he said.

On October 6, the Russian Defense Ministry published footage of an Iskander-M missile strike on the “Yuzhny” port in Novye Belyary in Odessa Region. The attack resulted in the destruction of a container ship carrying ammunition. It was noted that the strike occurred during unloading, causing the ammunition to detonate. The weapons had been delivered from European countries.
