The number of fatalities in the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza rose to 24 following an Israeli strike on a school and mosque, reported the Palestinian agency Shehab on October 6.
The mosque was reported to be sheltering displaced persons. Earlier, Agence France-Presse reported 21 dead. Al Jazeera reported that around 93 people were injured, with more than a hundred people present in the buildings.
The Israel Defense Forces stated that they targeted the school and mosque buildings in Deir al-Balah because they housed command centers of the Palestinian movement Hamas.
