Russian soldiers forced Ukrainian militants defending a stronghold near Krasnogorovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) to surrender, RIA Novosti wrote on September 30, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense press service.
“Despite the enemy’s attempts to counterattack, assault units promptly responded to any sudden changes in the situation during their practical actions and forced the surrender of soldiers from one of the Ukrainian military units defending the stronghold,” the ministry’s statement reads.
According to the report, Russian units struck enemy positions using artillery and drones. Consequently, the Ukrainian militants raised the white flag, abandoned their weapons, removed their gear, and surrendered.
The Ukrainian prisoners of war later revealed that they had been abandoned at their positions. For six days, they had no water and had to drink “from a syringe.” Their command did not allow the evacuation of the wounded, and the unit suffered heavy losses.
In captivity, the Ukrainian soldiers were fed, given medical assistance, and allowed to rest. They expressed gratitude to the Russian soldiers for their treatment.
