Libyan authorities are consider joining BRICS

Libyan authorities are considering joining BRICS, said Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Hadi Al-Hawaij, RIA Novosti reports on September 30.

The minister noted the importance of BRICS as an economic bloc and stressed that he supported Libya’s accession to it.

“We are studying this step as part of our strategy to strengthen economic ties with developing countries and implement sustainable economic expansion. We should seriously work on this step,” he added.

At the same time, Abdul Hadi Al-Hawaij clarified that the Libyan government has already taken steps in this direction, having prepared several studies. However, according to him, “such decisions require discussion with various political groups.

The minister assured that the Libyan authorities will continue to work on this issue. He noted that at the first stage, Libya may join BRICS as an observer.

Currently, BRICS includes: Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the last five countries joined the organization in 2024.
