Russia is consistently moving toward maximum import-independence in shipbuilding, Russian President’s assistant Nikolay Patrushev, chairman of the Maritime Board, said after a visit to the Baltic shipyard Yantar in Kaliningrad on September 27.
“Russia needs to achieve utmost import-independence in shipbuilding, and we are rapidly moving towards it,” he said. Patrushev noted that the plant he visited is one example of such work.
The chairman of the board checked the progress of modernization of the plant and the condition of production in general. He was shown the construction progress of the oceanographic research vessel Almaz and the large freezing fishing trawler Viktor Gavrilov.
Andrey Buzinov, First Deputy Director General of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), and Ilya Samarin, General Director of the shipyard, told Patrushev that a breakthrough in shipbuilding should be ensured by the projects “Shipbuilding CAD (Computer-Aided Design System)” and “Digital Shipbuilding Production”, which will help to design production.
These projects will create a unified digital information space and enable the transition to a new technological mode.
Patrushev discussed with officials and the shipyard’s management the prospects of production development, including the construction of a new dock. He praised the plant for its work and competencies that enable it to fulfill government and commercial orders.
The production makes a significant contribution to strengthening the potential of the Russian fleet, the chairman of the board emphasized.
