Chinese car manufacturers have begun rebranding themselves in the Russian market under new names, Vedomosti wrote, citing analysts from Avtostat agency.
The Russian market will soon see a new brand – Knewstar. However, observant car enthusiasts quickly noticed the similarities between the new models and cars that were already familiar to them from other manufacturers.
Sanctions and geopolitical tensions are forcing Chinese automakers to find new ways to operate in the Russian market. One such method is rebranding. Companies, wary of potential negative repercussions for their reputation, rename their models and introduce them to the market under new brands.
A prominent example of this strategy is the transformation of the popular coupe-crossover Tugella into the new brand Knewstar.
