Bulgaria to request EU ban on import of Ukrainian eggs

23.09.2024, Sofia.

Bulgaria will request a ban on the export of eggs from Ukraine to EU countries, stated Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture Georgi Tahov on September 23, according to Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

The minister will represent Bulgaria at the upcoming EU Council meeting on Agriculture and Fisheries. During this meeting, EU country representatives will discuss the agricultural market situation in light of the conflict in Ukraine.

Tahov emphasized that, at the insistence of the Bulgarian Poultry Association, he will request a ban on Ukrainian egg imports. However, he noted that such a decision requires approval from the European Commission.

“We have taken the first step by including eggs in the list of goods with higher duties, and now we are taking another step — at the upcoming Council, I will request an absolute ban on them,” the minister explained.
