An invasion by Israeli troops into Lebanon’s northern territories would be fatal for it, Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of the Shiite militant organization Hezbollah, said in a televised address on September 19, Al Manar informed.
“We hope they will invade our lands. Today, they are not moving, but then they will invade; we will have a historic opportunity that we hope for. It will have a serious impact on the battle,” he said.
The Israeli army has previously redeployed some of its troops to the border with Lebanon. On September 18, Major General Ori Gordin, commander of the Israel Defense Forces’ Northern Military District, said he was ready to invade Lebanese territory.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also revealed that the “center of gravity” is shifting from Gaza to Lebanon. Israeli officials have said they intend to create a security belt for the northern border.
“And the belt will turn into a trap, an ambush and hell for your soldiers, you will meet many resistance fighters there who were wounded on Wednesday and Tuesday,” the Hezbollah Secretary-General said, commenting on Israeli officials’ remarks.
