Lebanon accuses Israel of cyber attack that led to pager explosion

Israel is responsible for the mass detonation of pagers in Lebanon, which injured thousands of people, the press service of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry said on September 17.

The cause of the detonation was a cyberattack that allowed the hacking of a program linking thousands of communication devices used by the Hezbollah movement.

The Hezbollah movement also issued an official statement holding Israel responsible for the pager explosion and threatening it with “retaliation.”

On September 17, thousands of pagers in different cities in Lebanon exploded simultaneously. The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon was named among the victims. The number of injured exceeded 2.8 thousand people, eight killed, including a child, were reported.
