Venezuela foils US terrorist plot against government

15.09.2024, Venezuela.

A terrorist plot involving an international group of mercenaries to destabilize Venezuela after the presidential election was exposed by Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, TeleSUR reported on September 14.

The minister described an operation by Venezuelan security forces that allowed them to foil the plotters’ attempt to destabilize the situation in the country and carry out attacks on high-ranking government officials.

Cabello recalled that the Venezuelan authorities detained the US soldier Wilber Joseph Castañeda, who was in the country at the very peak of the electoral process. The official specified that it was Castañeda who led the entire operation. From the moment he arrived in the country, he began to establish contacts with politicians and organized crime. Chats were found in his phone showing that he coordinated anti-government actions on July 28, 29 and 30.

Cabello said that another American detained was an expert in carrying out hacking attacks. He added that two Spanish nationals, Jose Maria Basoa and Andres Martinez, as well as a Czech national were also arrested. Cabello emphasized that Spain was going to provide foreign mercenaries to carry out the plot, but the operations were directed by the US.

Fragments of the conversations show that the conspirators were willing to carry out massacres if necessary to destabilize Venezuela. In addition to seizing various facilities, including the Maiquetia airport and Miraflores Palace, the plan included attacking vital services. The conversations also show that they intended to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro and Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. During the investigation of the plot, security forces discovered and seized 400 rifles.

They thought the operation would be very easy. The fact that we seized the weapons – it turned out to be a hard blow for them,” Cabello said.
