13.09.2024, Berlin.

The nomination of incumbent German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to the post from the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in the next election is not supported by two-thirds of Germans, according to a poll published by the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper by the research company YouGov on September 13.

68% of those surveyed expressed a negative opinion of the idea. Only 20% supported the politician’s candidacy.

At the same time, 60% of voters who voted for the party in 2021 no longer consider him a worthy candidate. Only 31% would vote for the politician again.

The poll was conducted from September 6 to September 10. 2126 people participated in it.

In an interview with Tagesspiegel, Scholz said that the ruling coalition would last until the end of its term, and that he and his party would win the parliamentary elections in 2025.
