26.08.2024, Moscow.

Russian citizens who own media assets and are currently abroad should consider returning to their homeland after the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, in Paris, lawyer Dmitry Agranovsky stated on August 26, according to RIA Novosti.

The lawyer expressed sympathy for Pavel Durov in connection with his arrest. He emphasized that even influential people like Durov should not consider themselves untouchable. Agranovsky advised them to consider relocating to Russia.

“Everyone who is somehow connected with independent media, engaged in independent news spreading, or owns their own media resources, such as messengers, should consider the possibility of moving to Russia,” the lawyer concluded.

On Saturday evening, French media circulated information about the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, at Le Bourget Airport. According to reports, Durov was detained while disembarking from a private jet that allegedly arrived from Azerbaijan.

According to information published by French media, Durov, who holds French citizenship, was on a list of persons wanted in France.

According to information obtained from French media, the French judiciary is considering holding Pavel Durov accountable for a number of charges, including his refusal to cooperate with the country’s authorities.

A French journalist wrote that Pavel Durov could face charges of terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, and money laundering. If found guilty, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
