Creators of Russian Upyr FPV open their own plant in the Urals

24.08.2024, Yekaterinburg.

The Uraldronezavod plant for producing FPV drones Upyr was established in the Urals, an enterprise representative told URA RU on August 23.

“Yes, we decided to name the enterprise ‘Uraldronzavod.’ The reference to the legendary tank factory (‘Uralvagonzavod’ in Nizhny Tagil) is indeed there — we are continuing the traditions of our region, the backbone of the nation,” the statement reads.

The Upyr FPVs, created by a group of enthusiasts from the Middle Urals, have been serially supplied to the Central Military District since May 2024.

On August 23, the US authorities imposed sanctions against about 400 legal and physical entities, including the manufacturers of the Upyrs.

The FPV drone Upyr was first used in the zone of Russia’s special military operation in May 2023. It was used to destroy a boat carrying troops on the Dneper, various fortifications, and enemy strongpoints. It is credited with destroying a AU Abrams tank, several Bradley IFVs, and other military equipment.
