The Russian Armed Forces liberated the town of New York in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) from the Ukrainian militants, Chairman of the Russian Public Chamber’s Commission on Sovereignty Vladimir Rogov said on August 19, RIA Novosti informed.
“We received operational information from the Russian military about the liberation of the village of New York in the DPR,” Rogov said. “Our guys have knocked out the enemy. Now the mopping up is underway.”
According to Rogov, the Kiev regime’s 6th Separate Airmobile Brigade, which was in the settlement earlier, retreated in the direction of neighboring Nelepovka.
“The flag of Russia is raised over the town of New York,” Rogov added.
Until 2021, the town of New York was called Novgorodskoye, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine [Ukrainian parliament] decided to rename it allegedly at the request of local residents.
