Russian Prosecutor General’s Office declares Hollywood actor’s NGO undesirable organization

19.07.2024, Moscow.

The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office declared the activities of a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded by actor George Clooney undesirable in Russia, the agency’s press service wrote on August 19.

“The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office recognized the activities of the foreign non-governmental organization ‘Clooney Foundation for Justice’ (USA) as undesirable within our country,” the statement reads.

The NGO, created by the actor, operates with “Hollywood flair” to discredit Russia, supports extremists and terrorists who have fled Russia, and lobbies for initiatives to prosecute Russian leadership. The foundation also spreads pseudo-expert evaluations of the country’s legislation on foreign agents and NGOs.

The NGO was founded by the actor and his wife in 2016, allegedly to protect human rights, including the rights of women, journalists, genocide victims, war crime victims, refugees, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other minorities.
