Ships of the Russian Navy and Iranian Navy completed joint patrolling of the Caspian Sea waters, the press service of the Caspian Flotilla reported on August 1.
“A joint Russian-Iranian naval patrol has been completed in the Caspian Sea,” the statement reads.
During patrolling, which took place in the northern and central part of the Caspian Sea, sailors from both countries carried out tasks to protect maritime communications, control shipping and combat piracy, the press service explained.
Russia sent the small artillery ships Volgodonsk and Astrakhan to participate in the exercises, while Iran presented the patrol ship Shahid Nazir, the missile boat Jushan and the destroyer Deylaman.
During the day, elements of joint maneuvering, defense, and protection of a detachment of warships were practiced, with the subsequent transfer of control between the parties. These activities strengthened interaction and coordination between the navies of the two countries.
