Kurginyan: Orban seeks autonomy for Hungarians in Ukraine

27.07.2024, Moscow.

Hungary wants Zelensky to grant autonomy to the Hungarian population in Ukraine, philosopher, political scientist, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel on July 11.

Kurginyan reminded that Hungary suffered very much territorially as a result of the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and these losses are not forgotten there.

“They are memorable to the Hungarian consciousness, not even Austro-Hungarian, but actually Hungarian. And this is the point where the Hungarian Transcarpathian factor of Ukrainian statehood becomes extremely important,” Kurginyan said.

Referring to its past, Hungary claims that either Zelensky will give the Hungarian population the kind of autonomy that strongly problematizes Ukraine as an unitary state, or relations between the two countries will continually deteriorate.
