Zaluzhny urges the West to create “readiness” for total war

EU society must give up a number of freedoms and mobilize itself for total war, former Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief and Ukraine’s new ambassador to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhny said on July 22 at a conference of the UK’s Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

“Society must agree to temporarily give up a range of freedoms for the sake of survival,” RIA Novosti quoted Zaluzhny’s statement on Telegram.

He explained that the measure is necessary in the conditions of modern warfare, which is “total.”

According to the former Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief, such wars require the efforts of the entire society, not just the army. At the same time, politicians are obliged to “mobilize society.”

Zaluzhny pointed to “perhaps the most difficult and important component” in the whole endeavor – “the readiness of society.”

He emphasized that this should be based on “honest and transparent communication between the government and the people”.
